two short bottles immediately come to mind from last year. one semi-expected and the other a total surprise. the joy of a short bottle makes up for saving that special bottle for a special occasion and it doesn't stand up.
the non-surprise was a 2016 northstar premier merlot. my wine of the year. I tried for months to buy more and they finally found me another couple bottles.
the other was in a ryokan in kyoto last spring. they had a 2014 rioja gran reserve for $45, no idea on storage but no downside. she was lovely and definitely a short bottle for my wife and I.
A thousand thanks for recommending Gramercy Cellars Picpoul. I love Picpoul and have had bottles from France but none from WA. I think there are a few other WA wineries that produce it, but thanks to your recommendation I will try Gramercy Cellars.
