Paul…really cool you revisited the 2017 Elk Cove. I’ve been meaning to suggest that as a series. Maybe identify a vintage 2011, 2014 etc and make a call to the industry. Combine retro reviews with a brief history of the vintage (hot, cool, wet or frosts). We recently showed a 2015 Cuvée Alexandrine in London as a special, just for fun pour and now I’m fielding requests from the importer.
Thanks Bob! I've just added the 'From The Cellar' comment and each week's featured wine will be relevant in some way to something current. Your suggestion for a broader, vintage-based overview is a very good idea, although I'm not able to handle that kind of volume at this time, so I'll just keep on doing what I can do best.
thank you for including the luke background and essay. I love his verve and wish him the best on his journey. I hope it doesn't work out that he is naive in his take on how to market to his peers. they are undoubtably an important market, I'm just concerned that any slice of the market is going to take the time to take in the full story and authenticity of the product in today's fast moving world. I hope he's right and I'm just old and cynical (again).
I've never had a 'guest' columnist nor did Luke request that I run his piece. But he is a strong voice for the 20-something point of view, in his case benefitting from a family history tied to wine. Would that I had been so fortunate! Your cautionary comments are perfectly reasonable, not cynical. As for old... no comment.
Reading the young wine writers piece, I couldn’t help but think of how Cayuse and Bionic Wines checked all of his boxes. Good luck young man!
Great article and analysis

Luke’s advice seems sound. But does it bother anyone that he said not a word about quality? Or is that to be taken for granted?
