As a friend of Matt Loso back in 1993 I purchased some October harvested Cab Sauv grapes from Block 1 at Mercer Ranch ( ie. Champoux ) at now defunct French Creek in Woodinville where Matt was assistant winemaker.

With beginner’s luck my 5 gallons became the barrel topping wine for Matthew’s inaugural release and as a gesture from Matt I wound up with twice as much of the now barrel aged Block 1 Cab. as well as free bottling at Doug McCrea’s place in Rainier WA with my own personal “Byram Cellars” label no less. He then blended all the quality Horse Heaven Hills Cab with purchased Cab Franc to create enough quantity to justify a 1993 Matthew’s release. Fun times.

drank a lot of matthews years ago. knew matt a bit, even worked bottling for them a few times. however lately I found the wines big and spendy. was pleasantly surprised at the price point of these and will get back to the tasting room.
